Life Lessons From Dilbert

Mark twain once said, “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” It’s interesting that as the more concise your statement becomes, both the difficulty in and the importance of clearly stating your thoughts increases significantly.  I’m not necessarily a big fan of comic strips, but it’s always fascinated me how comic writers can not only consistently “think up” content, often on a daily basis, but also always be able to whittle the message down to a brief one to five line bit of profound humor we all can relate to.  That’s talent.  And if you consider Twain’s statement, it stands to reason that someone who can spew such short profundities on a daily basis might likely have something more to say worth considering.

I was recently turned on to Scott Adams’ Blog and haven’t been able to miss a day of it since.  Scott’s the creator of the famous “Dilbert” comic strip, which is a character he created basically out of boredom and disdain for the mundane corporate lifestyle.  Adams’ story on his path to where he is nowstory on his path to where he is now is a great example of how anyone leading a seemingly-normal life, with the right inspiration has the potential for greatness.

If you want a fresh perspective, laced with a few laughs, on everything from how to rule the world to simply overcoming long-shot personal trials, give Scott Adams a read.
